Internships: Learning and Living

“We may seem great in an employment below our worth, but we very often look little in one that is too big for us.”

Francois de La Rochefoucauld
Doing an Internship was never that easy to be honest, but who doesn’t like a pinch in the body to keep motivated for new challenges and new tasks. Being a student at IMI, it was always visible that some suffer more than others during their internships. Some say it is awesome and some say it sucks, but cheer up people, after all we are here to learn and what better way is there to learn than learning it the positive way.

A positive view is very important when it comes to our young lives. It is rarely the working environment that stops us from being happy, it is we who need to look at life a little bit more positively. Internships are amazing from my perspective – even though we may work harder than other employees. It sure is satisfying when you end up knowing more than the full-timers do about the workplace.

Recently, I have returned from completing a successful internship with Ibis Zurich Messe Airport, and I have one thing to say: “Best six months of my working life!” Zurich in the first place is a beautiful city with lots of different culture and contains my favourite urban district in Switzerland. Ibis Zurich Messe Airport was located in the main city, regional to the Airport which was five minutes away by bus.

Ibis offered me a great internship with the proper environment for working within a friendly atmosphere. I have done my best to keep myself at the top of my game and give colleagues and customers the service I was given the job for.

After all, apart from work, there was always fun with guests coming from different cultural backgrounds. Some were funny (others were annoying) but it all added up to a great, fun experience. During events in Zurich, the hotel was packed with lively customers and these were the times I loved working the most as everyone came up to us and sincerely thanked us for the service which always kept me motivated.

In my opinion, I believe internships in Switzerland are a great kick start to our career, for not only do we have to work like crazy, do overtime, pay high amount on bills and live up to the standards, it also lets us enjoy our life the way we want it to be in the end. The payment is good, the motivation is great and the social life is amazing, and it really helps us adapt to a different life on a large scale.
